A lot of hospitals and a lot of friends....

So as of recently I am a state paid slacker, so this weekend was one long fun celebratory trip.
Out with work, in with fun!

Lured to North Hampton by a friend who asked me which hospitals were on the way, because he knew I would come if there was one involved. When we finally got there, I was told almost immediately we were staying the night so he could hang out with some girl. TRICKERY!
So on the way up we bought a 30$ plethora of delicious fruits and drinks from Whole foods,
drove to Belchertown State School, walked in and around buildings, talked to people walking their dogs,
got bored and left, got to North Hampton, checked the last surviving building of what was once North Hampton State Hospital, ate some enchiladas, drank some beers, put some 13 yr olds asking for change in their place, hung out with some lame people, hung out with some rad people, and then went to bed on a random futon.
Woke up at 6:30 from said random futon, drove two hours back to Providence, jumped in my friends car and drove two hours to Connecticut, met up with some friends, watched Roland dressed in trash bags try to go down a flooded tunnel, waved at kids trying to get into the buildings, ran across a roof, got nude in some bath tubs, smoked a lot of cigarettes, ate at a sick diner, drove to NY, hung around the Yonkers Power Station, climbed some rafters, drove to Rockland, said our goodbyes, slept at a friends house, drank some beer, went downtown Nyuck and watched club girls with daddy problems and frat boys will small genitalia prove their dominance, ate some awesome pizza, went back to said friends house, watched "Titicut Follies",
drank more beer, looked at hospital spoils, talked about adventures, and then I passed out on another couch.
Here we go again, woke up at around 10am, went to the most incredible bakery I have ever been to in my life (Rockland Bakery), bought assorted breads and cold cuts, met up with our friend Evan at Rockland Psychiatric, lurked the grounds, saw a Turkey, saw a Woodchuck, saw a Hare, saw a Deer, went through tunnels, made a bridge in a flooded tunnel, back tracked several times, climbed through piping, took some more nude tub pictures, looked at some hallways, then some more hallways, and yet more hallways, found a cool room with some "neat" stuff, sat in the lawn and made sandwiches while patients walked by us, smelled something awful while we were eating, realized we were sitting next to a dead woodchuck, tried to get into the theater and failed, went back to the car and back to our friends house, said our goodbyes, started to drive home, decided to stop at the Mansfield Training School, took some pictures of wheel chairs and the little that's left, made it back to RI! What a great week!

I think I win.....

Out with the old.....

These last couple months have been pretty interesting to say the least.
Lately, I am having a hard time deciding whether the immense amount of change that has happened recently is a positive or negative thing. So I'm just gonna go with it and see where that takes me....

SOOOOO, quick run through a long day...

Woke up, edited some photos, walked downtown, unlocked my bike that was left there nights before, got some vitamin water, rode to the armory, played 2-hand touch with Nick and Zak, drank Black Labels, no one else showed for 2-hand touch, road to Erin's house, locked my bike up, started driving to CT, talked about life, caught a guy getting pleasured while driving on the highway, stopped at Panera and ate, got lost in New London, finally got to SS Regional, took some photos, met some rad people, talked about history, shared some Norwich State stories, hung till 12 at night, heard some kid get sprayed by a skunk, left SS Regional, raced people on the highway, shared a mini-can of Pringles (WAY NOT BIG ENOUGH!), made it home, called it a night, and went straight to bed.

All in all, I think it was a pretty good day....

Been a while since I used to frequent this place. Its a lot emptier than it used to be, but at least most of it is still in good structural condition.

Never the less, we got caught by security, made it in the buildings, took some pictures, sweat our asses off, got stuck in the basement of a church, got bit by more ticks, and then made it off the grounds in time for the ice cream truck, where we all ate our favorite childhood cartoon hero's.

You can check out the rest of the trip on my flickr.

Done lost my mind.....

Got out of work at 3pm on Saturday, which would usually be a 14 hr shift (9am-11:30pm) for me, so I was extremely happy to get out so early. I went home, got all my necessities together, took my dogs for a walk, and then laid back and waited for my friends Amy and Brendan to arrive. 6pm rolled around and so did my friends.

We drove for four hours, listened to Mariah Carey and Impaled, stopped to get some energy drinks, got to our POI, ate at a bad ass 24 hour diner, had a grilled cheese, trudged through the woods for 1 hour, got lost, got wet, got lyme disease, saw flashlights, laid in grass, walked another hour, got into 11 floor medical building, heard kids up stairs and scared them away, tried to find Roland's sleeping bag, took another hour to find the sleeping bag, thought the room they slept in was disgusting, pulled the mattresses out and put 3 of them in a seclusion, covered them with a plethora of sleeping bags, went to the roof for air, drank beers and whiskey till 6am, listened to black metal, pulled ticks off of each other, went to bed in a patient seclusion, woke up freezing, clothes were still soaked, put them back on, walked around the med-building, left to walk around the Kirkbride, almost fell through a floor, jumped off the morgue roof into a tree to get down, carried around way too much shit, went bowling, got attacked by Robins in a rec room, hung out on the roof and drank green tea, spent 5 more hours inside, left the hospital, walked through the home depot parking lot while workers were staring at us covered in dirt and ticks, went back to the 24 hour diner and ate some bad-ass food, ran up to Fishkill Correctional (Mattewean State Hospital) with a sick squat stance, picked up more drinks and drove 4 hours home with most righteous people on the face of earth.. That pretty much sums up the trip.

A little history on the place......

Completed in 1871, it was designed by Frederick Clarke Withers while Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux designed the hospital grounds

This Kirkbride is somewhat unique in that the female patient wing, is shorter than the male wing. This design was planned before construction on the hospital was even finished.  At the time it was expected that there would be fewer female patients than male patients. The Kirkbride Plan was designed so that each gender was separated to their own wing, and even thought the building is asymmetrical it is still considered complete. The wings of the hospital were built to hold 300 people of either sex and were divided by a chapel in the middle of them so the patients could not see into the rooms of the opposite sex. The facility was used up until the 2000's, by this time most of the Kirkbride had been sealed off and abandoned.
